Dave Ma - Director/Photographer

Dave Ma is an award-nominated Director, who uses his photography talent within certain videos of which he has made. Dave Ma has created music videos with some big named artists such as Horrors and Delphic, as well as the lesser known bands such as Fair Ohs and London duo, ddd. Ma's connections within London and surrounding areas have led to the close working relationship of Oxford band Foals, to which Dave Ma has directed numerous videos from both of the bands albums (Antidotes and Total Life Forever) including the video for NME Best Track of 2010, Spanish Sahara by Foals.

Dave Ma's style of visuals and videos gives a surreal feel to his work, yet almost in a documentary-like style that gives a sense of realism. Ma's music video directing gives a sense of pure illustration and imagery that uses stunning, atmospheric visuals throughout. Ma's innovative style of directing has led to numerous nominations, such as the video for Delphic's 'This Momentary', which was shot at Chernobyl in 2009 as well as the more recent nominations of the following year in the Best Director category for his work with Foals, Horrors and Delphic. In the past 2 years, Ma has begun to direct commercials rather than music videos. He has directed for advertising sides of  Prada, lastminute.com, Honda, Nokia, Vodafone and Absolut Vodka.

I have chosen to use Dave Ma's visual style of directing as an inspiration within my music video, closely using the vivid images and bold colours with a gloomy effect to create my video.
